Among the subjects discussed were the opportunities arising from the processing plant. As Bänziger explains, Baustoff-City offers the opportunity to process mineral construction waste using state-of-the-art technology. «This gives us high-quality sand and gravel material that we can use for a wide variety of applications, but primarily for concrete production.» This not only conserves gravel resources, but also reduces the amount of excavated material that would otherwise have to be deposited in regional landfills.
Bänziger adds that the high quality of the raw materials will hopefully help to lower the inhibition threshold regarding the use of recycled building materials in the region.
«The density of construction in Switzerland means that more dismantling materials will be produced in the future. In addition, gravel mining projects are becoming increasingly difficult to implement and, in the long term, it is a fact that primary resources are finite. These two points show the growing importance of keeping dismantling materials in the cycle.»
