Cement-free and practical: The takeaway from Horgen Oberdorf

The Horgen Oberdorf train station underwent extensive renovation and was made accessible on behalf of SBB. Anliker carried out the construction work, including the construction of a new platform, utility lines, and drainage systems, as well as a new pedestrian underpass.

During the construction work, approximately 230 m³ of KIBECO’s cement-free MIGROX lean concrete was used, primarily for pipe blocks and drainage lines.

During installation, it became apparent that MIGROX differs very little from conventional lean concrete. Due to its consistency, the workers even found MIGROX easier to work with than conventional lean concrete. Even in summer temperatures of around 30 °C, the material could be worked with no problems. In winter, the curing process took slightly longer at low temperatures. For the foreman, however, this was not a major issue, as the longer curing time could be easily factored into the schedule.

The positive experiences on the construction site demonstrate to him that cement-free alternatives work in everyday construction. At the same time, he is aware that the shift toward alternative building materials is not possible without investment. “You have to be willing to invest in the cycle,” he concludes. As production volumes increase, costs are likely to continue to level out in the future.

His hope for the future is clear: cement-free alternatives like MIGROX should become the standard in the long term. That is precisely our goal at KIBECO as well.
